With an essence of nostalgia comparable to classic rock music from the 60s, Allah-Las stepped onto the scene as an official group in 2008. Having met while working at Amoeba Music, a destination of desire for music lovers venturing in and around Los Angeles, they began refining their style and live performance technique before releasing their first single to audience in 2011. A song entitled “Catamaran/Long Journey” was that single that ignited the pilot light.
Shortly after the release of “Catamaran / Jong Journey,” the boys found a home with Innovative Leisure, a label also in Los Angeles, and in 2012 they released their self-titled album, “Allah-Las.” Critical acclaim followed the release of their second single, entitled “Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind) / Sacred Sands.” Due to this newfound encouragement, the band toured extensively around the Globe, giving rise to new experiences, new inspirations and new influences over future releases.
September of 2014 brought an even greater feeling of success with the release of the second album by Allah-Las at Innovative Leisure. The LA Times raved that “Worship the Sun, which lets the band’s trippy vintage rock absorb all sorts of new Southern California influences — Latin drumming, L.A.’s mid century avant-garde beach culture and Laurel Canyon Harmonies;” while Entertainment Weekly stated, “With the jangly guitars and vocal harmonies of a ‘60s folk rock group and the hippie-fied, mind-expanding quality of a Carlos Castaneda book, they’ve spent the past few years instigating a cosmic takeover of the underground garage rock scene.” That has to be a great feeling to anyone who has found such success with a label that works independently and aside from the mainstream.
